With a strong connection to the community, Otis closely documented the challenges and impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on residents of Wilcannia. During this period, he helped shed light on the challenges faced by Wilcannia and its residents, bringing attention to the housing crisis that emerged during the pandemic. He also highlighted the efforts of the skilled hunters from Mutawintji, who offered their support to provide fresh meat to the people of Wilcannia and Broken Hill without charge.

A group of skilled hunters from Mutawintji offer their skills to provide fresh meat for the people of Wilcannia. They do not charge for the service, they say it is their cultural obligation to their people.  So far the group have delivered more than 700kg of meat to Wilcannia and Broken Hill.

Wilcannia is a small poverty-stricken town in New South Wales. For decades it has battled a housing and health crisis, and a recent covid outbreak has made things worse.

Wilcannia has now been COVID free for weeks after one-fifth of the town's population was affected by COVID-19. The housing crisis was brought into the spotlight as the pandemic hit Wilcannia. The Government's response was to send in campervans so the people of Wilcannia had a place to isolate but the town wants to see long term solution.
